However, the process does not end with obtaining the visa. Digital nomads who wish to stay in Türkiye for more than 90 days must also apply for a residence permit after entering Türkiye.

Who Can Apply for the Türkiye Digital Nomad Visa?
The Türkiye Digital Nomad Visa is suitable for foreign nationals who earn their income from an employer, client, project, or freelance activity based outside Türkiye.
This may include remote employees, software developers, designers, digital marketing specialists, consultants, content creators, freelancers, project-based professionals, and other digital professionals whose income is generated from foreign sources.
The key point is that the applicant should not be working for an employer established in Türkiye and must be able to document that their income comes from foreign-based work relations.
Required Documents for the Türkiye Digital Nomad Visa
The Türkiye Digital Nomad Visa process generally consists of two stages. First, the applicant obtains the Digital Nomad Application Certificate through the online platform. Second, the applicant completes the visa application through the Turkish consulate or authorized visa center.
The required documents generally include:
1. Visa Application Form
The visa application form must be completed accurately and consistently with the applicant’s passport, income documents, employment documents, and other supporting documents.
2. Photograph
A recent biometric photograph must be submitted. The photograph must comply with the format and size requirements of the relevant authority.
3. Passport and Passport Copy
The applicant must submit a valid passport and a copy of the passport’s identification page. Passport validity is important for both the visa and the later residence permit application.
4. University Diploma or Graduation Certificate
The applicant is expected to submit a diploma or graduation certificate proving university-level education.
5. Digital Nomad Application Certificate
After submitting the online pre-application, eligible applicants receive the Digital Nomad Application Certificate. This certificate is one of the essential documents for the visa application.
6. Employment Certificate or Project Contract
If the applicant works for a company, an employer-approved employment certificate must be submitted. This document should clearly state the applicant’s remote work status, position, and nature of employment.
If the applicant is self-employed, a project contract or service agreement must be submitted. For freelancers, the parties to the contract, scope of services, payment terms, and foreign-source nature of the work are important.
7. Proof of Income
The applicant must prove a monthly income of at least USD 3,000 or an annual income of at least USD 36,000. Salary slips, bank statements, employment contracts, project contracts, payment records, or other supporting income documents may be used.
The income documents must be consistent, up to date, and suitable for the type of application.
Residence Permit Application After Obtaining the Digital Nomad Visa
The Türkiye Digital Nomad Visa alone is not sufficient for long-term stay in Türkiye. After obtaining the Digital Nomad Application Certificate and completing the visa application, the applicant may enter Türkiye. If the applicant wishes to stay in Türkiye for more than 90 days, a separate residence permit application must be filed.
The process should therefore be considered in three stages:
First, the applicant files an online pre-application through the official digital nomad platform and obtains the Digital Nomad Application Certificate if found eligible.
Second, the applicant applies for the Türkiye Digital Nomad Visa through a Turkish consulate or authorized visa center.
Third, after entering Türkiye, the applicant applies for a residence permit through the e-Residence system of the Presidency of Migration Management.
This final stage should not be ignored. The visa allows entry and temporary stay, but a residence permit is required for stays exceeding 90 days.
How Long Is the Digital Nomad Residence Permit Granted For?
Residence permit applications following the Digital Nomad Visa are generally evaluated under the short-term residence permit category. Under Turkish residence permit rules, short-term residence permits may generally be issued for up to two years at a time, except for certain exceptional categories.
However, this does not mean that digital nomad applicants automatically receive a two-year residence permit. The duration depends on the applicant’s passport validity, health insurance period, income documents, employment status, address in Türkiye, and the assessment of the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management.
In practice, digital nomad applicants are generally expected to receive a one-year residence permit. If the conditions continue, an extension application may be filed before the permit expires.
Since When Has Türkiye Had a Digital Nomad Residence Process?
Türkiye’s digital nomad practice started in 2024. However, it is important to note that digital nomad status is not regulated as a separate and independent residence permit category under Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection.
Therefore, although the term “digital nomad residence permit” is commonly used in practice, legally the process should generally be understood as a short-term residence permit application supported by the Digital Nomad Visa and the Digital Nomad Application Certificate.
