Who Can Apply for a Tourist Residence Permit?
In short-term residence permit applications for tourist purposes, the purpose of stay in Türkiye and the personal circumstances supporting that purpose are assessed together.
01 — Those with a Valid Travel Plan
Foreigners who wish to stay in Türkiye for tourist purposes for a certain period and who have a valid travel plan showing where, when and for how long they will stay may apply for a tourist residence permit.
In the application, the statement regarding the travel plan and the necessary supporting information or documents are assessed.
02 — Those Whose Mother or Father Is Resident in Türkiye
Foreigners whose mother or father is:
- Legally living in Türkiye with a valid residence permit, or
- A Turkish citizen resident in Türkiye
may have their short-term residence permit application for tourist purposes assessed, taking into account their family ties and their reasons for staying in Türkiye.
03 — Those Whose Child Is Resident in Türkiye
Foreigners whose child is:
- Legally living in Türkiye with a valid residence permit, or
- A Turkish citizen resident in Türkiye
may likewise have their short-term residence permit application for tourist purposes assessed, within the framework of their family ties with their children and their reasons for staying in Türkiye.
Having a ground for application does not mean that a residence permit will be granted automatically. The applicant's current legal stay status, the stated purpose of stay and the documents submitted are assessed together by the administration.
What Is Reviewed in the Application?
Legal Stay Status in Türkiye
The date of entry into Türkiye, the duration of the visa or visa exemption, current or previous residence permits and, where necessary, entry and exit records are reviewed.
Address and Accommodation
The documents relating to the address at which the applicant will stay in Türkiye and the type of accommodation are checked.
Health Insurance and Other Documents
The required health insurance and supporting documents are prepared according to the requested period of residence and the applicant's situation.
Initial Application and Extension
Initial Application
For a foreigner applying for a tourist residence permit in Türkiye for the first time, the application file is prepared after assessing the foreigner's current legal stay status, address and purpose of stay in Türkiye.
Extension Application
If an extension of an existing tourist residence permit is requested, the applicant's current situation and whether the grounds for residence continue to apply are reassessed.

Any additional information or documents requested by the administration are completed.

Residence Permit Card
If the application is concluded favorably, the residence permit card process is followed up.
If a Tourist Residence Permit Is Not Suitable for You
Depending on the applicant's situation in Türkiye, whether a real estate-based residence permit, a family residence permit, a student residence permit or another type of residence permit may be more suitable than a tourist residence permit can also be assessed separately.
